Ponte da Barca

Situada numa região abundantemente verdejante à beira do Rio Lima, dizem que Ponte da Barca foi buscar o seu nome à barca que fazia a ligação entre as duas margens, antes da ponte ser construída no séc. XV. Esta região era conhecida por Terra da Nóbrega ou Anóbrega que se pensa derivar do nome romano "Elaneobriga".O centro histórico da vila existem alguns solares (alguns são de Turismo de habitação) e belos monumentos dos sécs. XVI-XVIII merece uma visita cuidada.

Situated in an ample green region by the banks of the River Lima, Ponte da Barca is thought to have taken its name form the boat (barca) that connected the two banks before the bridge (ponte) was built in the fifteenth century. Previously, this region was known as Terra da Nóbrega or Anóbrega, which is thought to derive from the Roman name "Elaneobriga".
The town´s historical centre has a number of manor houses (some of which have been adapted to provide accommodation for tourists), as well as some beautiful monuments dating from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century.
O Antigo Mercado foi construído em 1752. Trata-se de um grande alpendre, com arcos de granito, outrora alugado aos feirantes.Tem planta rectangular (30x8 metros).

The Old Market was built in 1752. It is a big porch with granite arches that used to be tented to the hawkers. It’s rectangular area (30x8 meters).
