As Cataratas do Iguaçu são quedas de água do Rio Iguaçu (Bacia do Paraná), localizam-se dentro do Parque Nacional do Iguaçu no Brasil e no Parque Nacional Iguazú na Argentina que correspondem no total cerca de 250 mil hectares de floresta protegida.As cataratas têm cerca de 270 quedas, com altura superior a 82 metros ao longo de 2,7 km do Rio Iguaçu. A Garganta do Diabo, em forma de "U" com 150 metros de largura e 700 metros de altura é a maior de todas e a mais impressionante, marca os limites de Brasil e Argentina. A maioria das cataratas fica em território argentino, mas é do lado brasileiro que se tem a melhor vista.O nome Iguaçu deriva das palavras da língua guarani/y (água) e guaçu (grande). A lenda diz que Deus fingiu ter se casado com a bela Naipí, que fugiu com seu amante Tarobá numa canoa. Com raiva, Deus teria cortado o rio criando as quedas, condenando todos os apaixonados à eterna queda. A frase "Pobre Niágara" foi exclamada pela primeira-dama dos Estados Unidos, Eleanor Roosevelt, ao contemplar as Cataratas do Iguaçu fazendo uma comparação com as Cataratas do Niágara, em sua visita ao Brasil.
